AGS Coach trip to Hitchen Lavender Farm,

Event:  Hitchen Lavender Farm
Date: Thursday 25th June 2026
Time: 10.30am (Jansel Square ) return leaving time approx 3.30pm
Where: Cadwell Farm, Ickleford, Hitchin, Hertfordshire, SG5 3UA
Cost: £35 per person. With for a guided tour of the growing fields, distillery and museum (20+ people required)
 
The AGS are pleased to anounce a new trip for 2026, we are looking going to the Hitchen Lavender Farm, for a guided tour of the growing fields, distillery and museum. (They have a restaurant and shop too!!)

PLEASE NOTE: To do this we need to have a minimum of 20+ people. 
 
The cost will be approximately £35 per person including seat on the coach, entry fee and the tour. 
 
The anticipated itinerary is to board the coach at Jansel Square with a departure time of 10:30, arriving at the farm at approximately 12 noon 
The tour takes about one hour, and includes a short walk to the lavender growing fields and then a further short walk onto the distillery and museum.
We are assured that the tour is accessible to all. The departure time will be approximately 3:30 pm so this will give you plenty of time to also visit the restaurant and shop. 
 
Tickets are now available in the store.

Kimble and Ellesborough Horticultural Society events 2026

Roses
Kerry French has great experience of all aspects of growing roses and currently coordinates the Rochfords International Rose Trial, having previously worked at The Royal National Rose Society and RHS Wisley. Her talk covers the selection, planting, pruning, feeding and aftercare of roses.SPRING SHOW - Stewart Hall 2 00 – 4 30 pm Sunday 12th Come and enjoy some beautiful displays of Spring flowers and enjoy delicious home-made cakes.

Spring Show

Seasonal classes such as narcissus and tulips plus classes for plants in containers and floral art, Domestic section and also have classes for less experienced exhibitors and for children.
All classes are open to both members and non-members, except for Novice classes which are for members only.

Clematis and Other Climbers 
George Lockwood, an organic gardener who trained at Capel Manor College, returns to talk about climbers including the different clematis groups and how to plant, prune and look after them and also how these plants attract various insects which benefit the garden. 
 
Saturday 9th 5th May - 10 00 – 11 30 am 
PLANT SALE – Ellesborough Village Hall, Butlers Cross 
This is a great opportunity to buy locally grown perennials, vegetables and annuals. Come early - everything will be sold by about 11 00 am on past form.

Garden Design 
Amber Hine, who trained at Capel Manor College and now runs Hine Garden Design, returns with a talk that covers some garden design history/context, site analysis, garden styles, design approaches, a look at good and not so good design experiences and reviews a couple of projects.

Dahlias 
Carolyn Ormesher of Missenden Seeds is passionate about flowers which are good for cutting and pollinators, including dahlias. She will talk about the history of dahlias, why you should grow them, different types, how to grow and propagate them, dahlia breeding and top tips for beautiful dahlias.

AUTUMN SHOW – Stewart Hall 
Come and see some beautiful displays including chrysanthemums, dahlias and vegetables and enjoy delicious home-made cakes.

Planting Pots for Winter Interest and Spring Joy 
Harriet Rycroft was the Head Gardener at Whichford Pottery for many years and created some spectacular displays. Her talk starts with slides followed by a practical planting demonstration to discuss the nitty-gritty of creating and maintaining such displays.

Hellebores
Andrew Mikolajski, writer, speaker and RHS judge calls these the stars of the winter garden with a vast number of beautiful varieties to enjoy. He will discuss their history and origins, which are the best for growing in gardens and why they are still so expensive. 

Tuesday 1st December - 8.00pm
Talk on the Chilterns Wildlife Plus Christmas Social
Jon Mason is a local speaker on natural history and the environment. He will look at the diversity of habitats in the Chilterns, some of the best places to go and discuss his own experiences. Our Christmas social includes festive refreshments, quiz and a raffle.
 
All meetings are held at Stewart Hall, Little Kimble at 8.00 pm every 1st Tuesday of the month (except January and August). Although we pride ourselves on our expert speakers, all talks are very informal and are followed by refreshments and a raffle. Visitors are always welcome - do come and try one of our meetings.
